

NarragansettEdith M. Whitworth, 69, of Rhode Island Ave., the bulletin editor at Saint Mary Star of the Sea Church, died Tuesday at South County Hospital after a two month illness. She was the wife of the late Francis J. "Puggy" Whitworth, Sr.Born in the Smith Hill section of Providence, she was the daughter of the late Daniel J. and Dorothy I. (MacLean) McWilliams. A lifelong city resident, Mrs. Whitworth moved to Narragansett 11 years ago after retiring as parish secretary from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Mrs. Whitworth tirelessly devoted herself to her family and community through her volunteer work at the Jonnycake Center Food Pantry.She leaves two sons, Kevin M. Whitworth and Francis J. Whitworth Jr., his wife Jennifer, and granddaughters, Alissa, Danielle, Caitlin and Sarah. She was the sister of Daniel J. McWilliams Jr., Richard A. McWilliams, Dorothy I. Sullivan, and the late Vincent P. McWilliams and Patricia A. Carvalho.Edith's funeral will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 8:30 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am, in the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, Academy Avenue, Providence. Burial will follow in Saint Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours will be on Friday, October 18, 2013, from 4-8pm.
