

Ellen (McGowan) Slattery, 56, of Warwick, RI, passed peacefully on Sunday, June 21st, at home surrounded by her loving family, after a long, heroic and faith-filled battle with ALS for nearly two years. Ellen is the beloved wife of William "Chip" Slattery Jr., her high school sweetheart and husband of 33 years, and devoted mother of Julie Slattery, Megan (Slattery) Florence, and Kelly Slattery. She is the daughter of Mary Louise McGowan and the late James R. McGowan, and sister of Maura McQueeney, Judy Romano, Paul McGowan, Matthew McGowan, Jean Wolf, and the late Nancy McGowan. Ellen was a wonderful mother and wife, who will always be remembered for her sweet and caring nature, her effortless sense of humor, and her unconditional love and loyalty for her family and friends. Her soft, gentle demeanor would ease any situation, her intelligence could solve any problem, and her selfless devotion to her family and friends was both remarkable and inspiring. She met all the challenges that life brings with courage, grace, and dignity. Chip and the girls would like to thank all of their amazing family and friends for their unwavering love and support through their battle with ALS. We are so grateful to have you in our lives. The funeral will be held on Friday, at 8:45 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Road, Warwick. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am, in Saint Gregory the Great Church, 360 Cowesett Road, Warwick. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Nooseneck Hill Road, West Greenwich. Visiting hours, Thursday 4-8pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the RI Walk to Defeat ALS (Team Ellie-Pooh) would be greatly appreciated to help support the ALS community.
