

Born in Providence, he was a beloved son of the late Ernest L. DiRocco, Sr. and Amalia (Salvo) DiRocco.
Ernest was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School and later became a graduate of Roger Williams University, where he received his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. He worked as an EMT for Universal Ambulance for many years and retired from the City of Providence as a dispatcher for the Providence Fire Department after twenty-eight years. He also dispatched for Central Falls and Pawtucket.
Ernie’s passion, in his early years, was playing softball with his two brothers, Eddie and Tommy and he enjoyed his yearly fishing trips to Block Island with his closest friends. His hobbies were collecting toys, model trains and sports memorabilia, which he loved.
His last final words to his family were “Oh baby, oh boy.”
Ernest was loved by many people and will be sadly missed.
He was the loving brother of Edward F. DiRocco, Sr. and his wife Maureen, Thomas M. DiRocco and his wife Darlene, and Marie DiRocco and cherished uncle of Nicholas T. DiRocco and wife Hannah, Edward F. DiRocco, Jr. and his wife Remy and Jeffrey A. DiRocco and leaves a niece, Francesca M. DiRocco and a great-niece, Emma DiRocco. He also leaves his two beloved huskies, whom he affectionately referred to as “the Boys.”
His funeral will be held on Friday, July 25, 2025 at 9:00 AM in the PONTARELLI-MARINO FUNERAL HOME, 971 Branch Avenue, Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Pius Church, 240 Eaton Street, Providence. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. VISITATION THURSDAY 4-7 PM.
