Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Antonio and Egidia (Pazienza) Silva.
Ernest was a firefighter for the City of Providence for 37 years, retiring as a Lieutenant. He was also an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.
He was the father of Ernest P. Silva, Jr. and David A. Silva; grandfather of 7 and great grandfather of 3.
His funeral will be held Thursday at 9:00 am from the ROMANO FUNERAL HOME, 627 Union Avenue, Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Mary Church, 1525 Cranston Street, Cranston.
