She was the beloved wife of the late Norman Nero, with whom she shared 58 years of marriage filled with devotion, laughter, and deep love.
Born in Providence, Esther was the cherished daughter of the late Edmond and Mildred Procaccianti. She was a proud and dedicated mother to Aldo Merlino and his wife Gina of Cranston, Sandra Merlino of Florida, and Robbin Marsland of Johnston. Esther was the adored grandmother of six grandchildren and the proud great-grandmother of eleven great-grandchildren, all of whom were the joy of her life.
Esther found her greatest happiness when surrounded by family. Her home was a place of warmth, welcome, and wonderful food and those who stopped by always looked forward to seeing what she had cooking. She shared a special love of dancing with her husband Norman, and together they enjoyed many happy moments playing bingo and their favorite game, Hi-Lo Jack.
For 23 years, Esther dedicated herself to the Providence School Department, working in the school lunch program, where she served with care and kindness.
Known for her generous heart, Esther was always there for others, offering a helping hand, a comforting word, and a welcoming smile. She will be lovingly remembered for her beautiful smile, infectious laughter, and the deep love she gave so freely to everyone around her.
Funeral and burial services will be held privately, honoring Esther’s wishes and the family’s desire to remember her in a quiet and intimate way.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Esther’s memory are kindly invited to make a donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org; continuing her legacy of kindness, care, and compassion for others.
She has left this world having loved well and been loved deeply and her legacy of kindness will never be forgotten.
