

West Warwick Eugene J. Maxwell, Sr., 87, of East Greenwich Avenue, died peacefully Thursday, November 17, 2016, at Philip Hulitar Hospice Care Center surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Patricia A. (McEvilly) Maxwell for the past fifty-four years. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Herbert F. and Rose E. (MacGarrahan) Maxwell. Gene worked as a data processor for the Providence Journal Company for forty-seven years before retiring in 1992, and was a member of the Providence Newspaper Guild. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. In addition to his wife Pat, he leaves a son, Eugene J. Maxwell, Jr. and his wife Jennifer; three daughters, Marybeth Chappell and her husband David, Michaela A. Remsen and her husband Matthew, and Patricia R. Derby; two brothers, Herbert F. Maxwell and Everett V. Maxwell; and seven grandchildren, Emma, Charles, Cassandra, Victoria, Olivia, Shane and Jacob. The funeral will be held Tuesday, at 8:45 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Road (Rt117) Warwick. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Saint Francis DeSales Church, 381 School Street, North Kingstown. Burial, with military honors, will be in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours Monday, 5:00 - 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hope Hospice & Palliative Care, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904 in his memory will be appreciated.
