Born in Guarcino, Frosinone, Italy she was the daughter of the late Francesco and Lidia (Legge) Tirocchi.
She was the beloved mother of Robert Francis Tirocchi and his wife Doreen Ann (Paolantonio) and Maria Lidia Tirocchi Femino and her husband Michael and grandmother of Andrea Marie Dayotas (Peter Jr.), Jaclyn Leigh Tirocchi and Mia Adriana Femino. She was also the sister of Lizetta Petricca (Tirocchi), Giovanni Batista Tirocchi, predeceased by Amilcare Tirocchi, Giuseppe Tirocchi and Anna Giansanti (Tirocchi).
Filomena traveled to America and began her journey at nineteen, quickly learning the English language and applying a gifted talent for dressmaking. This humble beginning led to a home spun dressmaking and alteration work shop. She enjoyed carrying on and sharing Italian traditions. Many days were filled with love and laughter, not to mention, homemade wine, pasta, bread and whatever was in season from her large well tended vegetable and flower gardens. Her children and granddaughters were her most precious love of all. Through her, they learned love with selflessness, compassion and kindness. Filomena was a long time communicant of St. Anthony’s Church. Served as Eucharistic Minister and assisted in many parish matters. She enjoyed traveling and felt blessed to visit the Holy Land with her beloved sister Anna. She had an adventurous spirit, traveling solo to Australia to spend quality time with her relatives. Her most cherished trips of all were going home to Italy being with family. She will truly be missed by those who loved her.
Her visitation and funeral will be held Wednesday at 9:00 am from the ROMANO FUNERAL HOME, 627 Union Avenue, Providence followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in St. Anthony Church, 549 Plainfield Street, Providence. Burial to follow in St. Ann Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Filomena’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org/ri
