Romeo and I will miss Fran.  We just found out about his passing today.  

We enjoyed our visits and phone calls with him and I’ll always remember how much he liked petting Romeo, who really warmed to him.

I know he liked the Mounds Bars we would bring when we visited. In fact, we went to Lincolnwood today with candy bars at hand, but sadly, he was gone.

I had the opportunity to meet Mr. Sargent when he became roommates with my lifelong friend at Lincolnwood Rehab in Rhode Island. I was always impressed by his diligent efforts to improve his physical standing with hopes of returning to his vibrant life, whether doing his leg lifts in his chair, his arm exercises with weights, or just getting up and walking to keep moving.  We had the chance to talk on many occasions and I heard what was a finite glimpse into his seemingly adventure filled life. He shared his early challenges with learning and yet still finding his way into Brown University that led to a clearly accomplished professional career. I also heard stories of his place in New Zealand, his passion for fishing and all outdoor related activities was clear. 
Mr. Sargent and my friend Phil spent literally every waking moment together during his time at the facility and I know how much Phil appreciated the bond and friendship they developed as they supported one another through the daily struggles of life  in a Nursing Home. 
Mr. Sargent spoke of his family with great pride, I pray for him, his daughter and those he left behind.
On behalf of myself and my friend Phil, May God Bless you and keep you Mr. Sargent, and the same for your family!

The loss of Fran has left a hole in my heart. Starting some 60 years ago, he was like a foster father for me; in the 1960’s he took me under his wing and for decades we spent countless hours on the water together. Some of our expeditions were hair raising and some were more sedate, but it was always an adventure with Fran. 

There was no one on the water as skilled as Fran at handling a boat or as talented as he was at catching fish. In the last decade or two, we would talk 2-3 times a week. The subject, of course, would usually be about fishing, boating, or the outdoors; I always enjoyed his stories, even if I had heard them countless times before. 

I have boated and fished with some of the best on the coast, but there was no one I would trust more on the water than Fran and there was no fisherman who was his equal. As much as he was a striped bass expert, he was even better at trout fishing. 

While the rest of us are mourning, the trout are breathing a sigh of relief, but the trout in Heaven must be getting nervous.

I'll miss you my friend. You would call me and ask about my ducks and goat. We would talk about traveling to New Zealand together and how to wear the neck pillow!!! Every time I saw your number on my phone I would pick up even when I was on the treadmill at the YMCA! We shared alot of laughs and ice cream at second Sunday dinners! May God hold you in the palm of his hand. Godspeed my friend till we meet again! Save a seat and some ice-cream for me!
