

Geraldine A. Crowley, 75, died Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Bayberry Commons, Pascoag, RI. Born in Providence, RI, she was the daughter of the late John J. and Margaret M. (O'Shea) Crowley. She was a graduate of St. Xavier Academy, Class of 1958, and entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1959. She was a Sister of Mercy for 46 years. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Salve Regina College in 1965. Upon her graduation from Salve, she was assigned to work in the missions in LaCeiba, Honduras, where she was the director of the School of Nursing at the Hospital Vicente D'Antoni. After serving there for eight years, she moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan, to attend the University of Michigan and earned a Master of Science in medical-surgical nursing in 1976. She was an assistant professor of nursing at the University of Michigan from 1976 - 1979. In 1979, she joined the staff of the University of Michigan Hospital, where she became the Clinical Care Coordinator in the surgical transplant unit. During this period, she completed her doctoral studies in nursing. She was a member of the International Transplant Nurses Society, for which she reviewed professional abstracts. She was selected to attend several international conferences and present her scientific papers on transplants from a nurse's perspective.After retiring in 2005 from the University of Michigan Hospital, she returned to Rhode Island. She was a communicant of St. Ann Church in Cranston, where she also served as a lector. She is survived by her brother John J. Crowley, Jr. and his wife Mary of Cranston and her sisters Kathleen V. Hemingway of Greenville, Mary F. Canole and her husband Michael of Cranston, and Patricia M. Izzi of Warwick. She was predeceased by her brother Robert M. Crowley, Sr. She was the sister-in-law of Kathleen F. Crowley of Coventry and the late John Izzi. She is also survived by eleven nieces and nephews and fourteen grandnieces and grandnephews. A special thank you to Jennifer Moffatt and the staff at Bayberry Commons, and Bonnie DeMello and the staff of Gentiva Hospice, for the care and compassion they demonstrated to Gerry in her final years. Her funeral will be held on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at 8:45 am from The Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home 331 Smith St, Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Mark Church, 9 Garden Ct., Cranston. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston, RI. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M.
