

J. Gerald Hines, 100, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2018, at St. Elizabeth Home in East Greenwich. He was the beloved husband of the late Cecile (Sevigny) Hines. Born in Cranston, he was the son of the late James G. and Ellie (Stone) Hines.
A life long resident of Cranston, Gerry graduated from Cranston High School. Following graduation, he joined his father in operating Hines Dairy Farm. Later, Gerry became an accomplished sales professional with Ralston Purina and Vestal Laboratories. He owned a Providence based package store. In 1969, became a Court Sheriff, which led to his most enjoyable job as Clerk of the Rhode Island Superior Court.
His life was filled with service to family and Church. He was a proud Democrat and fulfilled his dreams of kissing the Blarney Stone and living to 100 years with a sound mind. He was a Member of the Immaculate Conception Mens Club, St Joseph Natick Mens Guild, Friendly Sons of St Patrick, and was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus. His generous spirit, sparkling blue eyes,and hearty laugh will be remembered by family and friends. He was a true gentleman.
He is survived by his sons, James Hines (Carol) Tiverton, RI, Stephen Hines (Patricia)North Kingstown RI, and J. Gregory Hines (Holly)Westlake Village CA, his daughters, Marcia Siler White (David) Delray BeachFL and Anita Bussey Charlestown RI, eleven living grandchildren, one deceased, 18 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Monsignor Leo F. Hines, Robert Hines, Mary “Amy” Barresi and Grace Canning.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, from 4 – 7 pm in the Russell J. Boyle and Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Rd., Warwick. Funeral, Monday at 8:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at Immaculate Conception Church, 237 Garden Hills Dr., Cranston. Burial to follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
