

Cain, James H., 86, of Capitol Ridge at Providence, 700 Smith St, passed away on Friday, August 21, 2015 at Hopkins Manor in North Providence. He was the beloved husband of Helen M. (Walsh) Cain.He was born in Ellison Ridge, Mississippi, the son of the late Houston L and Annie E.(Puckett) Cain.Jim had a distinguished career as a patrolman for the Providence Police Department serving 31 years and retired in 1988. He was a member of the of the Providence Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 3 serving as past treasurer and executive board. He was a member of the Providence Police Association and the Retired Police and Fire Association.He served his country honorably in the US Navy from 1948 to 1950.Jim was a member of the Knights of Columbus, J A Finnegan Council# 111 in Providence.Besides his wife, he leaves four sons, James T. Cain and his wife Mary of New Canaan, CT, John F. Cain of Providence, William J. Cain of Chepachet, Robert E. Cain and his wife Belinda of Providence; 2 daughters, Deborah Provencher and her husband Leo of Smithfield and Peggy Perry of Lincoln; 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late William L. Cain, Ella L. Massey and Hilda Lewis.His funeral will be held on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at 8:30 am from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith St., Providence. Mass of Christian Burial will becelebrated at 10:00 am in St. Patrick Church, 244 Smith St., Providence. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
