Smithfield James H. Higgins, 87, of Smithfield, died Saturday at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital. He was the loving husband of Dorothy S. (Cuzzone) Higgins. They were married for 55 years.Born in Providence, he was a son of the late James H. and Genevieve (Cahill) Higgins, Sr.James served our nation proudly during the Korean Conflict as a member of the United States Army, was the proprietor of Higgins Swiss Machine Products for many years, and was also an inspector at D. Simpson, Inc.In addition to his wife Dorothy, he leaves two daughters, Karen Clough and her husband David, and Susan Mariano. He was also the beloved Papa of James and Isabella Mariano. He was the father in law of the late Steven Mariano, and was pre-deceased by his brother Joseph Higgins and his sister Ruth Higgins.The funeral will be held Thursday, at 8:30 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Saint Michael Church, 80 Farnum Pike, Smithfield. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. Visiting hours Wednesday, 4:00 - 7:00 pm.
