
NORTH PROVIDENCE - McKENNA, James J., Jr. "Seamus" "Coogie", 84, of Douglas Terrace died Thursday at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital. Born in Providence, a son of the late James J. and Margaret "Theresa" (Kelly) McKenna, he had lived in North Providence for the past 34 years. Mr. McKenna had been a 24 year veteran of the United States Navy. He served during WWII, where he involved in the Normandy Invasion, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. He retired in 1966 with the rank of Chief Petty Officer. Upon his retirement from the Navy, he works for several years with the U.S. Postal Service in Providence. He is survived by two sisters Helen E. Gardiner of Middleboro, MA and A. Ursula Murphy of Warwick; his brother Gerard E. McKenna of North Providence, 22 nieces and nephews and 12 great nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Mary M. "Marie" Hart. His funeral will be Tuesday at 8:00am from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00am in St. Edward Church, Branch Avenue. Burial, with military honors, will be in St. Francis Cemetery.
