

Born 8 July 1934, he was the son of the late Henry W. and Amy E. (Briggs) Molloy of Cranston. He leaves behind his wife of 66 years, Barbara M. (Dowling) Molloy, and his two sons, James T. Molloy, Jr. (wife Katherine [Keenan] Molloy) of Westborough, Massachusetts, and Thomas W. Molloy (wife Donna [Laliberte] Molloy) of North Smithfield. He had three granddaughters and one grandson: Dr. Erin K. Molloy (husband Dr. Michael D. Kruepke) of Hyattsville, Maryland, Jamie E. (Molloy) Rivero (husband Dr. Albert H. Rivero) of Charlottesville, Virginia, and Ryan A. Molloy and Laura E. Molloy, both of North Smithfield. He had one great granddaughter, Elena A. Rivero. He was preceded into eternity by his nine siblings: Henry, Dorothy (May), George, Richard, David, John, Amy E. (Medeiros), Edward, and Cynthia (Falcao). He had one surviving sister-in-law, Vera (Gravalese) Molloy. He had seven nephews and four nieces: the late George May, Darrell May, Eileen (May) Williamson, Terrence May, Dr. D. Scott Molloy, Jacqueline (Molloy) Igliozzi, John Molloy, Eduardo Falcao, Ronaldo Falcao, Lyssa (Falcao) Rosenbaum, and the late Kathia (Falcao) Pickett.
He was a US Navy veteran and served during the Korean Conflict, earning the National Defense Service and Good Conduct medals. He joined the Providence Fire Department in 1957 and rose through the ranks to Deputy Assistant Chief, retiring in 1988. He was recognized for meritorious service. He also worked part-time for the former Paramount Restaurant Supply Company for 30 years. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, International Association of Firefighters Local 799, Providence Permanent Fireman’s Relief Association, Retired Providence Police and Firefighter’s Association, and Laborer’s International Union of North America Local 1033.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 24th, family and friends are invited to gather at 10:30 a.m. with sharing of memories at 11:00 a.m. in the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence, RI 02904. He will be interred at the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery in Exeter following a private ceremony. He was fiercely independent, and his wit and wisdom will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
