

Warwick John A. Bailey, Jr., 84, of Fountain Avenue, died Saturday evening at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Care Center, Providence. He was the husband of the late Rosalind M. (Moriarty) Bailey. Born in Providence, a son of the late John A. and Catherine (Kapucinski) Bailey, Sr., he lived in the West Elmwood neighborhood of Providence for many years before moving to Warwick thirty-seven years ago. He served his neighborhood of West Elmwood as a State Representative from Providence District 17 for several years. John was a firefighter for the Providence Fire department for twenty years, retiring in 1969, and went on to work as a supervisor at Petrolane for several years, WJAR-TV for ten years and Haxton's Liquor Store before finally retiring in 1997. During that time, he also found time to own Bailey's Mobil Service Station, manage Little League teams in the West Elmwood Little League, be a Scout Leader in the Boy Scouts of America, and an Adult Advisor for the C.Y.O. He was a communicant of Saint Catherine Church, Warwick, a former communicant of the Church of the Assumption, Providence, a member of the Bishop Hendricken P.T.A. and the William Shields Jr. American Legion Post 43, Warwick. John served his country proudly in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. He leaves a daughter, Joan M. Weedon of Warwick; two sons, Joseph G. Bailey of Denmark, Europe and John G. Bailey of Warwick; a sister, Sr. Joan Bailey, RSM of North Providence; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held Thursday, at 7:45 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Road (Rt117) Warwick. Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 am in Saint Catherine Church, Post Road, Appanoug. Burial, with military honors, will be in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours Wednesday, 4 - 8 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to Home and Hospice Care of RI, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904 in his memory will be appreciated.
