

Coventry: Gannon, John H., 84, of Arbutus Trail, passed away on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Maureen T. (Young) Gannon for 62 years. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late John L. and Esther (Levin) Gannon. John was a retired Captain of the Providence Police Department, where he headed the Juvenile Division. He served for 38 years retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Providence Lodge No.3 FOP, the Providence Police Association, was a past President of the Retired Police and Fire Association, and was a member of the East Greenwich Firemen's Association. Besides his wife Maureen he is survived by his three children, Debra Entringer of Albany, NY, John P. Gannon of Lincoln and Michael C. Gannon of Coventry; his brother, Bernard E. Gannon of North Kingstown, former Police Chief of the City of Providence and later, the town of Burrillville; and six grandchildren. He served honorably in the U.S. Coast Guard during the Korean War for three years. Funeral services will held on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 8:15 am in the Russell J.
