Providence John L. "Jake or Jack" Gaudet, 52, of Sandringham Avenue, passed away peacefully Friday evening at home surrounded by his loving family after a short illness. He was the husband of Sandra L. (Burke) Gaudet. They were married for twelve years. Born in Providence, a son of Dorothy L. (Dodd) Gaudet and the late Joseph G. Gaudet, he was a lifelong city resident.Jake was a graduate of Our Lady of Providence High School, and went on to work for Verizon, last working as a splice service technician, for twenty nine years, before retiring in 2009. He was a long-time shop steward in the Tower Hill Road Facility, and was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union, Local 2323. He was a lifelong communicant of Saint Pius V Church. He relished time spent fishing with family members at Johnson's Pond in Coventry. Jake was unequivocally a generous and caring person, never saying no to any request, and asked for nothing in return, though he always knew his friends and family were always there for him. When his brother Richard was stationed in Afghanistan, he called Jake with a special request. He spoke with Jake about the children he witnessed in Afghanistan that were in dire need of coats, sweaters, shoes and other warm clothing as they went to school in tents in the cold Afghan winters. Then without question, Jake sprung into action, rounding up voluminous amounts of clothing by soliciting donations and shipping them in two large connex containers. He selflessly volunteered time at the Providence Food Bank, St Francis Food Bank and St Pius Church, all the while proving his dedication to helping those less fortunate and homeless. Jake had a vibrant adoration for skiing, snowmobiling, dancing, and traveling. He is survived by his loving and caring wife, Sandra Burke-Gaudet, his mother Dorothy H. Gaudet, his sister Carol Ann Bramley and her husband Russell, his brothers Richard E. Gaudet and his twin James G. Gaudet and his wife Diane; sister-in-law Theresa, the widow of his late brother William J. Gaudet; and many nieces, nephews, two grand nieces and two grand nephews. The funeral will be held Tuesday, at 8:45 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence.
