Joe was the proud patriarch of his family. He was a true gentleman-honorable, loyal, loving, generous, protective and respected. Joe spent the past 75 years with his wife Rosalind “Snookie” (Morrell) Cataldi whom he lovingly referred to as his “bride”. The two were happily married for 69 years and shared a lifetime of love that was amazing to witness.
Joe was the owner of Joseph D. Cataldi Floor Resurfacing Company for 50 years. In addition to his work, he was an active member of his community. He served on the Executive Board at Providence Water for 27 years, including 20 years as Vice Chairman. He was the longest-serving member when he retired in 2024. Joe was also a longtime member of the Providence 4th Ward Democratic Committee. He and his son, Donald, were the first father and son to be inducted into the Wanskuck Boys Club Hall of Fame.
Joe’s proudest accomplishments were his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was happiest when he was spending time with them-on family vacations, days by the pool and taking his granddaughters for ice cream. He loved cooking for the family, especially his stuffed artichokes and Easter breakfast specialties which will be treasured family recipes for years to come. His granddaughters, who he fondly called ‘#1” and “Babe” will always remember sleepover mornings spent making Grandpa’s famous doughboys with lots of sugar.
In addition to his bride, Snookie”, Joe leaves behind his son Donald J. Cataldi, daughters Sandra Cataldi Grenga (John Conti) and Pamela DiRocco (Richard); grandchildren Alyssa Cataldi Wermuth (Kyle), Taylor Grenga and Richard and Anthony DiRocco and great-grandchildren Lucas and Hailey Wermuth. Joe was the loving former father-in-law of Lisa Cataldi and Mark Grenga.
Our family would like to give a special thank you to Vanessa Carnevale for all your love, support and help with our dad, as well as her staff at Continuum Care. Special thanks also to Joe, Gianna and Anne from Golden Crest Nursing Center for going above and beyond for our dad and to Anthony Lombardi for ensuring your godfather was taken care of on his final night. We can never thank you all enough for your roles in making a terrible time a little easier for our family. We are deeply grateful to each of you.
His visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM in the PONTARELLI-MARINO FUNERAL HOME, 971 Branch Avenue, Providence followed by a funeral service in the funeral home at 10:30 AM. Burial will be private.
