

Joseph Sagat, 86, of Providence, a retired employee of the former Providence Wholesale Drug Company, passed away peacefully at the Elmhurst Extended Care Facility, in Providence, after a period of failing health, on Friday, November 4, 2011. He was the husband of the late Alice (DeWetter) Sagat. Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Alexander and Petronia (Aukstaulis) Sagaities. Joseph was a veteran of the United States Navy. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, and was active with the Regal Crownsmen, and the Capital Grenadiers Drum and Bugle Corps. Mr. Sagat is survived by his three daughters, Catherine Cronk, Jo-Ann Sagat, and Mary Lou Petrarca and her husband Domenic; a step son, Robert Simoneau; his cherished grandchildren, Joseph and Lu-Ann Cronk, Craig McCarthy, and Alyssa, Evan and Matthew Petrarca (who all lovingly referred to him as "PAPA"), and a great granddaughter, Jasmine Cronk. He was also the brother of the late Alexander Sagaities, Stanley Sagaties, Alphonse and John Sagat. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, at 9:00 am from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am in Saint Casimir Church, 350 Smith Street, Providence. Burial will be private.
