Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Louis and Doris (Demers) Rao. Before moving to Florida in 2021, she lived in Providence for 79 years. She was a graduate of Mount Pleasant High School in 1960 and then married her husband a month later.
Family was everything to Joyce. She was filled with pride, wonder and amazement at the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. She relished being a great grandmother as well. Her family filled her with joy and love that was unrivaled except for a designer purse and a “nice outfit”. She loved to shop.
Joyce was the most selfless, beautiful soul, and always put her family, friends and anyone one who needed help first. She filled peoples’ hearts and bellies with delicious Landi-sized meals and desserts that were never ending. Her love and recipes will live on forever. She will be missed by many.
She is survived by her children: James Landi and his wife Karen of Ann Arbor, MI, Lynn Landi of Virginia Beach, VA and Jill Duffy and her husband Donald of Mulberry, FL. Her 7 grandchildren: Melissa, Jessica, Christopher, Maria, Nicholas, Connor and Colton, her 6 great grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Jasmine, Kady, Teagan, Isabella and Rose. Her sisters: Barbara Ancone of North Providence, RI and Jean Mannarelli of Louisville, KY, and her late brother Salvatore Rao, with whom she shares her final day on earth, two years later than him.
Her visitation will be held Monday January 9th from 8:30-9:30 a.m. in the Pontarelli-Marino Home, 971 Branch Ave, Providence followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Pius V Church, 240 Eaton Street, Providence. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
