Mafalda D. “Muffy” (Guglielmi) Gecawicz, a beloved family matriarch, passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at age 94. Her life was a testament to her deep love and unwavering commitment to her family and community. She was the beloved wife of the late Frank A. Gecawicz. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Elsie (Albanese) Guglielmi.
She was the devoted mother of Raymond M. Gecawicz and his wife Gail, Alexandra L. Capron and her husband Stephen, and Kathy A. Gecawicz; cherished grandmother of Albert Olson, Jennifer Cotting, Michael Gecawicz, and Cole Harrison; and loving great-grandmother of Elizabeth and Lillian. She was predeceased by her brother, Michael Guglielmi.
Family was at the center of Muffy's world. As the family's matriarch, she dedicated her life to caring for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, passing on cherished family traditions that will continue for generations. Muffy was the family's central organizer and communicator, a role she embraced with joy and skill. She meticulously planned countless family reunions and kept in touch with her extensive network of relatives, ensuring everyone felt connected and loved.
Muffy's kitchen was the heart of her home, filled with the delicious aromas of her cooking. She was famous for her homemade pizza and pancakes, her Italian specialties, including her legendary Polish Gulumpki, were always a highlight at family gatherings.
Her passion for food extended to her community, where she was an active member of the Sons of Italy, the Boys Club Mothers' group, and her church choir.
In her earlier years, Muffy was a self-taught, accomplished seamstress, creating beautiful curtains and clothes that showcased her talent and attention to detail. Her artistic spirit also shone through in her hobbies. From a young age, she found joy in playing the piano and creating many floral arrangements. As anyone who ever played Chinese Checkers with her knows, Muffy was unbeatable… a game she always won with a sparkle in her eye.
Muffy's legacy is one of love, tradition, and boundless generosity. She will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, from the PONTARELLI-MARINO FUNERAL HOME, 971 Branch Avenue, Providence, with visitation from 10:30 AM-12:00 PM, followed by a service in the funeral home at 12:00 PM. Burial will follow in Saint Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket.
