Maria L. Soares

Born in Faja de Cima, Sao Miguel, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Joao and Maria Clara (DaSilva) Matias.

Maria was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of the Rosary Church for over 50 years and was a cook in both annual church feasts. She was also active with the malassada sales held throughout the year. She also cherished cooking and spending time with her family.

She was the mother of Francisco “Frank” Soares and his wife Cynthia, Martha M. Brassil and her husband Kevin, Suzette M. Soares-Cook and Manuel J. Soares, Jr. and his wife Laurie. Her pride and joy of her life were her grandchildren, Joshua, Timothy, Thomas, Nicholas, Faith, Olivia, Samantha and Manuel, III. She was also great grandmother of Evan and Benjamin and sister of Ervalina Matias Pacheco, Maria Conceicao Cristo and the late Renato Matias.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at 9:00 AM in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 21 Traverse Street, Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 AM. Burial to follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Maria’s memory to Mt. St. Rita Health Centre, 15 Sumner Brown Road, Cumberland, RI 02864.
