Maria (Cassisi) Mento

Maria (Cassisi) Mento, age 84, passed away June 25, 2023 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Antonio Mento to whom she was happily married for 64 years. They shared a life of true love and devotion. Antonio selflessly cared for Maria throughout their life together.

Born in San Pier Niceto, Messina, Italy; she was a daughter of the late Antonio and Carmela (Cannavo) Cassisi.

Maria was a lifelong member of St. Ann Church in Providence.

She was the loving mother of Anna Iadeluca (Lorenzo), Maria C. Mento, and the late Carmelo Mento; cherished grandmother of Nicholas and Christopher Iadeluca; sister of Francesco Cassisi (Maria), Domenico Cassisi, and Carmela Vanikiotis; and aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Maria was a loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother. She touched the lives of so many people and accepted life’s challenges with compassion and grace. Maria had a kind heart and a very gentle soul.

The family would like to thank Dorothy Coutard, Elizabeth Fonseca, Kevin Smith and the hospice staff of VNA Care New England.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 29, 2023 from 4:00-7:00 p.m.

Her funeral services will be Friday, June 30, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. in the Pontarelli-Marino Home, 971 Branch Ave, Providence followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 1081 Mineral Spring Ave, North Providence. Graveside burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket.
