PROVIDENCEVarela, Maria S. (Lopes), 55, of Baker Street, passed away Saturday, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Tomas C. Varela. They were married for 31 years. Born in Santa Catarina, Cape Verde, she was the daughter of Manuel Lopes and the late Joana (Monteiro) DeOliveira. She was employed as a Certified Nursing Assistant at the Saint Elizabeth Home in East Greenwich prior to retiring due to illness. She was a loving and caring person, who enjoyed the comforts of being surrounded by her loving family. Besides her husband, she leaves her two sons and daughter, Tomas C. Varela, Jr., Michael C. Varela and Albertina Maria C. Varela, all of Boston, MA. She also leaves behind 8 brothers and 6 sisters. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, at 8:30 am from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am in Saint Paul Church, One Saint Paul Place, Cranston.
