Maureen J. (Boudreau) Samos, 88, passed peacefully at home on March 22, 2025 with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles A. Samos, they were married for 66 years. Born in Providence, RI she was the daughter of the late Robert F. and Irene M. (Hanley) Boudreau.
Mrs. Samos opened the This and That Shoppe, an antique shop on Wickenden Street in Providence during the early 70’s and was in business for 35 years. In the 90’s she transformed the shop into an antique co-op which was the first of its kind in Rhode Island. Because she enjoyed meeting people from all walks of life, the antique shop was a perfect place where all felt welcomed and people still remember her fondly. The shop was frequented by local college students, especially RISD students, as they often found inspiration for their art projects there.
She and her husband also invested in local real estate on the East Side of Providence. Her interest in antiques aligned with the historical properties she restored with her husband.
She was educated in the Providence school system. A life-long reader she recalled as a young girl standing in the Gilbert Stuart Library aspiring to read every book inside the building. She enjoyed many subjects but was partial to biographies and books on history.
She was known for her kindness and opened her heart and home to many young individuals in need of a sanctuary where they felt welcomed and heard. She was a magnet to those who needed someone to talk to, they knew they would find acceptance and understanding from her. She had a love of family and enjoyed hosting many memorable gatherings. Her epic Christmas get-togethers are still talked about today.
Maureen is survived by her loving children, Cheryl A. Jaros and her husband Glenn, Deborah J. Samos, Charles A. Samos, Jr. and his wife Julie, and James R. Samos and his wife Rita-Marie; her cherished grandchildren, Nicholas, Stephen, Gregory and Scott Jaros, Elias, Coleton and Braydon Samos, Caterina and Alexander Furtado; and her great-grandchildren Nolan and Della Jaros, Lianna Furtado and Gracelynn Cuozzo. She also leaves her siblings, Richard Boudreau and his wife Theresa and Deborah Giblin and her husband Robert. She was sister of the late Robert Boudreau, Nancy Bell, William Boudreau and Barbara Ihlefeld. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Her Funeral will be held Saturday, March 29, 2025 at 10:00 am in the Russell J. Boyle and Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Road, Warwick followed by burial in Pawtuxet Memorial Park, Warwick.
