Dr. Melvin Greenberg

DR. MELVIN GREENBERG , 80, a longtime resident of Providence, died Tuesday, February 7, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Barbara (Hittner) Greenberg to whom he was married for 53 years. Born in Providence on March 7, 1931, he was a son of the late Myer and Irene (Heller) Greenberg.

Dr. Greenberg was a graduate of Providence College and Temple University. He practiced podiatry in Providence for 50 years. Dr. Greenberg was an active member of Temple Emanu-El, a member of Touro Fraternal Association, and the American Podiatry Association.

Along with his wife, he is survived by his children, Vicki Greenberg and her husband Gerald Del Sesto of Providence, Dr. David Greenberg and his wife Elizabeth of Barrington, and Mitchell Greenberg and his wife Julia of East Greenwich; his grandchildren, Justin, Emma, Ariah, Nathan, and Jacob; and his brothers, Irwin and Richard Greenberg, both of Florida. He was the brother of the late Dr. Alan Greenberg.

His funeral service will be held Friday at 10 AM at SUGARMAN-SINAI MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 458 Hope St., Providence followed by burial in Lincoln Park Cemetery, Warwick. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society. Shiva will be observed at the home of Dr. & Mrs. David Greenberg in Barrington, Saturday 7-9 PM and Sunday 4-6 PM.
