

FIELD, MILDRED ROBINSON, 100 years old, passed away peacefully at her home in Sarasota, Florida on Tuesday, December 8th. She was born in Providence Rhode Island on August 4th, 1920 to Celia (Hassan) Robinson and Ira Robinson. Mildred was pre deceased by her younger brother Harold and older brother Albert and her grandson, Andrew Merrill Pastor.
Mildred was a 1937 graduate of Hope High School in Providence. As an outstanding student, she was accepted to Pembroke College at Brown University and graduated in 1941 cum laude where she majored in Romance languages. After graduating from college, she worked as a social worker.
In 1945, Mildred married Dr. David Field, a dentist, whom she had met several years before at his aunt and uncle’s home, which was located on the first floor of the two-family home where she lived with her parents and brothers. David had just completed a tour of duty in Europe, and the two were married right after he returned home in a small wedding ceremony.
Mildred was a devoted wife to her husband and a full time and loving mother to her children Joyce (Pastor), born in 1946 and Steven, born in 1948. They lived in Providence on the East Side where the family was active at Temple Emanuel and Mildred was a president of the Miriam Hospital Women’s Association. Joyce married Bruce Pastor in 1967 and Steven married Deborah Langburd) in 1978,
Mildred and David retired to Sarasota, Florida in 1973 where both became active members of their community. They volunteered at The Senior Friendship Center where adults receive affordable medical and dental care. Mildred was dedicated to her alma mater, Brown University and served as co- president of the University Club.
Mildred and David joined the Longboat Key Club where they played tennis and socialized and Mildred served as a president of the tennis association.
From 1985 until 2012. Mildred was a dedicated volunteer at the Sarasota Visitor and Convention Bureau.
Mildred was a wonderful grandmother to Caroline and her husband Paul Morenberg and Lauren and her husband Jason Abrams; and Michael Field and Joanna and her husband Corey Brine. She adored her great granddaughters Sarah and Juliet Morenberg and Jordan and Taylor Abrams and loved to play with them.
Mildred’s legacy as an excellent cook and baker will live on and her daughters and granddaughters have all inherited her culinary skills.
