Krekorian, Takouhi (Queenie) 98, passed into eternal life on Friday, November 25, 2011. Born in Ansour, Turkey on February 22, 1913, she was the daughter of Ghazar and Anna Donabedian, the sister of the late Donabed Donabedian and the wife of the late Cesag (John) Onanian and Harry Krekorian. She is survived by her two sons, Edward Onanian and his wife Zvart, and Harry Krekorian, Jr.; her granddaughters Laurie Onanian and Deborah Onanian and her husband Eric Stickler; and her great-grandson John Edward Stickler. Takouhi was a survivor of the Armenian Genocide, just two years old when her mother perished. She and her brother lived in orphanages and foster homes in Turkey and France until she was reunited with her father in Marseille, France and brought to America, where they settled in Franklin, Massachusetts. She was fluent in four languages, Armenian, Turkish, French and English. Following a brief marriage to John Onanian of Whitinsville, MA, Takouhi along with her father and son Edward, moved to Providence. She was married in 1945 to the late Harry Krekorian and lived with him and their son Harry Jr., until his death in 1997. The majority of her life was spent in Providence where she had a successful 30 year career in the jewelry manufacturing industry, working mainly for the Coro Jewelry Company. Takouhi was a perfectionist, meticulous with all her endeavors, from keeping an immaculate house to tending to her beautiful rose gardens in the spring and summer and African violets throughout the year. She was a smart dresser who had a strong fashion sense developed during her years in France and enjoyed shopping at the Outlet, Shepard's, Peerless and Cherry and Webb during downtown Providence's heyday. Takouhi was a devout member of the Saints Sahag and Mesrob Armenian Church, and the Parish's Women's Guild and Ladies Aid Society, as well as a past recipient of the Mother of the Year award. She was the guiding hand behind her sons' and grandchildren's service to the Armenian Church. She was also a loyal member of the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU). Takouhi was a staunch Democrat and would faithfully vote in local and national elections, proud of her American citizenship and right to vote. She was a generous spirit, who felt one should always give more than receive. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 in Russell J.
