Robert Paul Lawton

Robert Paul Lawton, 80, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on July 31, 2017. He was the beloved husband of Barbara (Cohen) Lawton. Born in Providence, Robert was the son of the late Percy and Ruth (Waterman) Lawton.Robert was a proud member of the United States Navy. After returning he was employed by Nyman Manufacturing in East Providence, before his retirement. He was a Senior Warden for his church and a group leader for the young people fellowship. Robert was a fan of all sports, Boston and a season ticket holder for the Providence College men's basketball team. He coached the Edgewood girl's softball team and youth basketball for the Church of the Transfiguration. Besides his wife. Robert is survived by a son, Paul J. Lawton, a daughter, Beth Lawton Sailer, a brother, James Lawton, nine grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. He was the father of the late Barbara Lawton Miguel, and the brother of the late, Donald Lawton, Florence Ray and Dorothy Pentilla.Visitation Wednesday, 4- 8 pm in the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Funeral Thursday at 8:45 am followed by service at 10 am in All Saints Memorial Church, 674 Westminster St., Providence. Burial in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston.
