Ruth Logowitz

Ruth (Cornell) Weiner Logowitz, of Palm Beach, Florida. Born August 23, 1926 in Fall River, Massachusetts. Daughter of Herman and Florence Cornell. Married to Irving Weiner (1948-d.1976); Kenneth Logowitz (1986-d.1996) Mother of Betsy McNeil (Andrew) and the late Mark Steven Weiner (Susan). Sister of Alan Cornell and Lois Firestone. Grandmother (beloved Grammie) of Catherine (Brian) Bunnin, Mark Steven Weiner Jr., Zoe Weiner, Richard Weiner, Donald McNeil and Ian McNeil. Great Grandmother (adored Gigi) of Maxwell Bunnin and Bennett Bunnin.

Ruth raised her family in Providence, Rhode Island. In addition to being a devoted mother, wife, and daughter, Ruth held a variety of positions that enriched the lives of others. She was a full-time volunteer at Providence City Hall, a member of the Governor's Commission on Women, a member of the Jewish Federation for career women, a member of the Turks Head Club, a member of the Breakers Palm Beach, a member of Chabad of South Palm Beach, and she sat on the Board for Muscular Dystrophy Research. She was the volunteer coordinator for the state of Rhode Island, which included the establishment of the Friendly Visitor program. Ruth introduced the first Head Start program to Rhode Island. She was honored by the Rhode Island Spanish community when she was chosen the American mother of the year. Much of her volunteer work included introducing government programs through television and radio appearances. She also did extensive research on the problems of widowers.

After the death of her second husband, Ruth became a world traveler and saw places she had always dreamed of visiting. She loved taking to the high seas and cruising the world. When asked what her favorite place was, she would say,” Let’s start with St. Tropez and take it from there”.

Ruth was an avid reader and was sharp as a tack. She was a lifelong Democrat and always had an opinion about the politics of the day. She had a great sense of humor and an incredible memory for people and their stories, always inquiring about the welfare of others. Ruth was a recognized beauty throughout her life and was always dressed to impress. She was as kind and caring as she was beautiful and will be missed greatly by those who loved her dearly.

The family extends their gratitude to Diane Salazar, whose devotion and care enhanced Ruth’s wellbeing and enriched her life in her last years in Palm Beach.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Ruth’s memory may be made to Chabad of South Palm Beach, 224 South Ocean Blvd., Manalapan FL 33462. Her graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at 11:30AM in Swan Pont Cemetery, 585 Blackstone Blvd., Providence, RI. Relatives and friends invited.
