

Scott Travis, 47 of Providence, RI and formerly Cumberland, RI, died September 15, 2017 after his second courageous battle with cancer. He was the son of the late Herbert S. Travis, Jr. and Elsie (Forloni) Travis. He leaves a brother, Herbert S. Travis III of West Warwick, two sisters, Melissa D. Travis of Cumberland and Melodie D. (Travis) Kirby of North Attleboro. He also leaves behind his longtime girlfriend, Amanda Lariviere, of Providence, a Goddaughter and niece, Lindsay Travis of Burrillville and nieces Kristina, Caroline and Elizabeth Kirby and a nephew, Jonathan Kirby.
Scott was a lifelong Patriots, Bruins and Red Sox fan and hosted a popular sports site– Scott Travis Sports News with thousands of subscribers. Throughout the years the site hosted local sports celebrities with live field reports from Patriot Place, TD Garden, Fenway Park, NBA Hall of Fame and three Super Bowls. Scott played hockey from a very young age and later played in several men’s hockey leagues. Both of his teams, The Vipers and The Outlaws, won multiple championships. Scott worked for Textron Financial Services for more than a decade and later enjoyed a successful entrepreneurial career launching Innovative Business Enterprises, with multiple business and real estate holdings. His proudest achievement was earning his accreditation as a referee with the RI Hockey Officials Association.
His extensive network of friends and family are invited to celebrate his life Thursday, September 21, 2017 from 4-7 pm in the Pontarelli-Marino Funeral Home, 971 Branch Avenue, Providence. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cancer Research Institute or his family to establish a foundation in his name supporting immuno-therapy research and cancer education.
