Steven Arthur Bastow

Steven A. Bastow, 56, of North Providence, died on March 25, 2018, with his loving family by his side.Born in Providence, he was the son of the late James A. and Jean M. (Bannon) Bastow. He grew up in Cranston, graduated from LaSalle Academy in 1979, received his BA in Human Relations from St. Joseph’s College in New York in 1984, and his M. Ed in Guidance and Counseling from Providence College in 1992. Committed to Catholic education, Mr. Bastow taught at LaSalle Military Academy in Oakdale, NY from 1984-1986 where he also served as a Dormitory Prefect. From 1987-1991, he taught and served as a Guidance Counselor and Study Council Advisor at LaSalle Academy in Providence. He was a Guidance Counselor at Mount Saint Charles Academy in Woonsocket from 1991-2017. Mourning his loss are his siblings Brian J. (Kathy) Bastow of San Antonio, TX, James F. (Carol) Bastow of Cranston, Paul B. (Nance) Bastow of Coventry, Raymond R. Bastow of East Providence, Jacqueline M. (Michael) Kelly of Smithfield, and Barbara J. Bastow (Margaret McHale) of Bowie, MD. He is also survived by his nephews Sean, Mike Jr., Tim, Kevin, nieces Erin and Jennifer, and new grand-nephew Benjamin.Mr. Bastow was devoted to his family, friends, and his students. He was very proud of the success of his students and enjoyed working with the Student Council and the Mock Trial participants.
