Walter P. Brown, Jr. (Ret. PFD), 69, of Johnston, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at his home. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Walter P. and Gladys M. (Marshall) Brown.He served his country proudly with the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Upon his discharge, Walter attended Providence College and completed the fire science program. He began his training and graduated the fire academy on February 20, 1969. Walter worked for the Providence Fire Department for several years, retiring in 1981 as a Battalion Chief. After his career with the fire department, he worked as a supervisor for 911 Emergency Telephone System for 17 years. He was a member of the Providence Fire Fighters Union, Local 799, Retired Providence Police and Fire Fighters Association, and the Providence Permanent Fireman’s Relief Association.Walter enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson, loved playing keno, and was a member of the Smithfield Gun Club.He is survived by his two sons, Walter P. Brown, III and Stephen Brown, both of GA; two brothers;a sister; and a grandson.
