
Walter Francis Sullivan, Jr., of Smithfield, passed away peacefully at home on September 5, 2025. He was the devoted husband of the late Dorothy Irene (McWilliams) Sullivan, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage.
Born in Providence, RI, Walter was the son of the late Walter Francis Sullivan, Sr. and Mabel L. (Brown) Sullivan. He worked as a Group Leader at Mine Safety Appliance Company in Smithfield, RI. Known for his hardworking nature, Walter was a true handyman who enjoyed working on cars and tackling home projects. Above all, he treasured time with his family, who were the center of his life.
Walter was the father of the late Walter F. Sullivan, III. He is survived by his daughters, Dorothy I. Speakman and her husband Charles of Harrisville, RI, and Patricia A. Monahan and her husband Charles of Smithfield, RI. Walter leaves his sister, Sandra G. Sullivan of North Providence, RI. He also leaves behind his grandson, Bryan Almstrom and his wife Lori of North Oxford, MA, and his cherished great-grandchildren, Jameson and Rowan Almstrom.
Walter will be remembered for his devotion to family, his quiet strength, and the care he gave to those around him.
Visitation will be held in the Russell J. Boyle and Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence, RI, on Thursday, September 11, 2025, from 8:00 to 9:00 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 AM in St. Michael Church, 80 Farnum Pike, Smithfield, RI. Burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence, RI.
