Wayne H. Ferland, 69, of Glen View Court, died Monday evening, April 7, 2014, at Roger Williams Medical Center. He was the beloved husband of Rose Marie (Cyckevic) Ferland for the past forty-eight years. Born in Jackman, Maine, he was a son of the late Florian and Leona (Couture) Ferland. Wayne was a policeman for the Providence Police Department, where he served for thirty years, before retiring. He worked in the Patrol Division, Detective Division, and the Prosecutors Office of the Providence Municipal Court. He was a member of the Providence Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #3, the Retired Providence Police and Firefighters Association, Smithfield Elks Lodge #2359, West Warwick Eagles Club and The Moose Club, Florida. Prior to his police career, Wayne was a bus driver for the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority, and served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. In addition to his wife, he leaves a son, Wayne H. Ferland, Jr. and his wife JoAnn; a daughter, Christine A. Newton; two brothers, Rudy and Dwight Ferland; eight loving grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was a brother of the late Thelma Marks and Henry Ferland.
