

William J. Granger, Sr. (Bill), 71, of Hermon, NY, formerly of Smithfield, Rhode Island, passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital in Potsdam, NY. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Joseph E. and Doris (Bailey) Granger. Bill spent his career working in Federal Law Enforcement. He was a graduate of the 94th session of the US Border Patrol Academy, and later became a Special Agent with the US Immigration and Naturalization Service, eventually retiring as the Special Agent in Charge of the Providence Immigration and Naturalization Office. He proudly served his country in the US Army Special Forces in the RI and CA National Guard. Bill grew up in Smithfield and moved frequently over the course of his career. He loved animals, especially horses, spending time on the water boating, and was a gifted certified Master Gardener. Bill was the husband of Rayna (Farrell) Granger, the late Ellen (Brown) Granger, and the former husband of Marianne Collinson. He leaves his son William J. Granger, Jr. and his wife Karen, of NY; his daughters Bethany Warburton and her husband Brian, of East Greenwich, and Shannon Granger, of Tellico Plains, TN; a brother, Dr. Joseph Granger and his wife Lois, of Louisville, KY; and his four loving grandchildren, Ellen and Spencer Warburton and Olivia and Liam Granger. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at 10:00 am, in the Mausoleum Chapel of the Highland Memorial Park Cemetery (located in the rear of the cemetery) 1 Rhode Island Avenue, Johnston. Interment will be in the same cemetery. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to visit with Bill’s family on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm, at the Russell J.
