Formerly a resident of Parker, Colorado. Alicia passed away on January 25, 2026 at 92 years old.
Alicia formerly Alice Arbie Ryberg. She was born to Harry Ryberg who migrated to the United States in 1919 from Sweden. His Swedish name was Rutgerson and changed it to Ryberg after he arrived in America. Her mom was Effie Lena Collins, born in Texas as a descendant of a French father and Irish Indian mother who came from Oklahoma. Effie was 14 years old when she married Harry who was 35 years old. Harry worked for the railroad in Salida, CO. He ventured to Corona, New Mexico where he homesteaded 21 sections of land or 21 square miles. They raised 1000 head of Hereford cattle and 1000 head of Angora goats. Effie worked burning cactus for the cattle to eat. They did not go hungry because of the ranch animals during that time. The family ate biscuits and steak for breakfast. Alicia always craved a slice of store-bought white bread. Shoes and gas were rationed at that time and food stamps were sparse. Alicia was given one pair of shoes a year and to make them last she went barefoot all summer long so she would have shoes for school. She wore long handles under her dress cut off to fit her legs, which she hated. The kids caught the bus 2 miles from the ranch house. The family ranch was 12 miles from town with abundant rattle snakes and dirt roads. There are abundant stories of her childhood recorded by her that will make you wonder how the kids survived their childhood.
At age 16 she met and married Bob Lee Hunt age 23. This was one of the happiest times in her life. They had 4 children, Rick Lee Hunt, Jeanne Kay, Brenda Sue and Kimberly Ann. Bob and Alice lived in Pueblo, Colorado until 1958. Bob was a stucco contractor and Alice ran their laundry mat on East 4th street. After moving to Denver, they worked moving and building houses. Alicia completed her bachelor and master’s degrees. Alicia decided she wanted to pursue her artistry in paintings. She drew cartoons as a child then after 30 years of building houses she expanded her artistry to depict moods of quiet mountain meadows, waterfalls, seascapes, close-ups of nature, abstract landscapes and portraits with various techniques.
Alicia divorced Bob in 1970. She went on to teach PE at a Community College and became Lakewood senior center activity director. She was always involved remodeling her homes, selling and moving to the next dream home. She met and married Nat Romanin in 1989. Nat preceded her in death. Alicia retired in Pueblo, Colorado to be near her daughters in her final years.
Alicia was preceded in death by her father, Harry Ryberg, her mother Effie Petrose, her brother Carl Ryberg, son Rick Hunt and daughter Kimberly Hunt.
Alicia is survived by her sisters Louise Schnieder, Ellen Masters, Ronda Diaz, brothers Ernie Ryberg and Rocky Deterts. Daughters Jeanne Matott and Brenda Elliott. Grand children include Shawnea Wilkes, Shannel Soderbeck, Shane Hunt, Nichol Williams, Caleb Matott, Justin Matott, Angela Elliott and Heather Elliott. Great grandchildren are Chantel Hirschel, Sonora Putman, Clancey Soderbeck, Lexi Gundlach, Sabre Suko, Tanner Matott, Wyatt Matott, Sebastian Elliott, Araya Ewert, Clayton Hunt, Morgan Hunt, Preston Hunt, Logan Hunt, Weston Williams and Drake Williams.
