

Charles Abbate passed away June 6, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents Antonio and Carmella Abbate, his loving wife of 61 years, Christina, brother Warren, sisters Cynthia Icabone and Dolly Holland, mother-in-law Clarabell Kasimatis, sisters-in-law Florence Abbate, Joyce Kasimatis, and Helen Humphreys, brothers-in-law John Kasimatis and Anthony Icabone.
Charles is survived by his children, Charles Mitchell Abbate and Teri Lynn Abbate, grandchildren; Michael
Austin Abbate, Nicklaus Anthony Abbate, Charles Montgomery Abbate, and Arwen Mae Abbate, as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was born on April 5, 1931, in Pueblo, CO. Charles attended Bessemer Elementary, Keating Jr. High, and Central High School, from which he graduated with honors and was the Vice President of his class, earning him two scholarships. He married his lady 1953, and attended college at Pueblo Jr. College, earning his A.A, and later attended Colorado College, earning his BA and MA. He was a classroom teacher and Media Specialist, was the first to implement computers in the library. Charles taught at Spann School District 60 for 30 years. He was nominated for Teacher of the Year in 1986 in the State of Colorado. In addition to his teaching career, he worked at the CF&I for 11 yrs as mill rite/purchasing and worked for 11 years at the public library. Charles co-founded and was a dedicated member of Pueblo Retired Educators (PRE), the Pueblo Elks #90 for 55 yrs, Dante Alighieri Society for 28 years, and Sky Corral R/C Club over 40 yrs. He served in the United States Army as a Corporal for 2 years after the Korean War. He received an invitation to Army Air Cadet, and after O.J.C. graduation, was invited to apply for O.C.S, Officer Candidate School after training in leadership school. He will be greatly missed. At his request no public viewing will be held. A cancer survivor twice, the family respectfully asks that and donations in his name be made to the American
Cancer Society in lieu of food and/or flowers.
Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at 10am at The Shrine of St. Therese, with committal
services to follow at Imperial Memorial Gardens. Military Honors will be bestowed at graveside. The family invites friends at guests to join them for a reception following the committal services, at Imperial Funeral Home.
