

Daniel Ray Smith, 67 passed away December 11, 2013 after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his wife, Carol and sons Danny (Stephanie) and Scott; two brothers, John (Alberta) and Robert (Betty); brother-in-law Nick Todero (Lucieann); aunts: Mary Smith; Natalie Vegas and Betty Golob; numerous nieces, nephews; and dear friends. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna Smith and in-laws, Nick and Mary Ann Todero; brother, Jerry; and sisters, Barbara Smith and Marge Latka. Born November 19, 1946 in Pueblo, Colorado. He was affectionately known to family and friends as "Smitty.” He graduated from Central High School in 1965. Following graduation, he was a barber, then served in the US Army in Germany from 1966-1968. He married Carol August 10, 1968. He worked at the Sante Fe Railroad and later at Sam's Floor Covering. Dan was an avid bird hunter and proud to be known by his hunting buddies as "Dead-eye Dan". He loved baseball, especially the Yankees. Dan's collection of baseball cards was only topped by his collection of "Jackpot" photos from Cripple Creek. Dan enjoyed the many fun times with family and friends-- playing pool or cards, taking vacations, and going on gambling excursions. The family gives a special thanks to the caring staff of Life Care Center. Memorial Contributions may be made in Dan’s memory to the American Cancer Society through the funeral home office.
