

Born in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, he was the son of Mildred Mynatt and step-son of Joseph Mismash.
He graduated from South High School, received his Bachelor's Degree from Pueblo Community College, and his Master's Degree from Adams State College.
He was a teacher and coach at Central High School. In addition to his football coaching, he started the Central boys swimming program in 1970 and coached the Wildcats to a State Championship in 1977, the first ever championship for a team outside the greater-Denver area. Coach Knapp also coached the Belmont Club Barracudas to three Summer State Championships. In 1998, he was inducted into the Greater Pueblo Sports Association Hall of Fame, in recognition for his accomplishments in swimming.
Coach Knapp went on to enjoy over 40 years of success in Insurance and Financial Consulting.
He will be remembered as a beloved athlete, coach, mentor, husband, father, and friend.
David is survived by and deeply missed by his wife, Janie, and his two daughters, Michelle and Racquel.
He is also survived by his nephews Dennis Carroll (Judy), Darryl Carroll (Lisa), Derek Carroll (Katy), and his niece Dawn Tucker (Tom).
He was preceded in death by his Mother Mildred Mismash and "Pappy" Joseph Mismash: his Brother-In-Law Leo Carroll and Sister-In-Law Judy Carroll: his Mother-In-Law Doris Carroll and his Father-In-Law, Cephas Carroll: his Grandmother Ida Mynatt and Grandfather Herbert Mynatt.
The viewing will be held from 5pm-7pm on Wednesday, January 29th at TG McCarthy Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 30th at St Joseph's Church. The rosary will begin at 9:20am, with the eulogy to follow at 9:45, and the Mass to begin at 10:00am. The burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery immediately following the Mass.
