Della Ponce, of Pueblo, Colorado, went home to be with the Lord Jesus on Sunday, May 11, 2025 – Mother’s Day – around 8:00 a.m. While the world celebrated mothers, we celebrated her entrance into the presence of the Lord.
Della loved the Lord deeply. She found comfort in knowing He was always near, and she prayed faithfully for her family and health each day. Her faith was quiet but unwavering, and her spirit reflected peace and strength.
She was married to Melciades Ponce for 35 years until his passing 37 years ago. Together they raised four children, and built a home full of warmth, love, and generosity. Della’s greatest joy was her family. She gave with an open hand and loved with an open heart.
She was a fashionista – known for her timeless style and unmatched flair. Whether it was a trip to TJ Maxx, going out to eat, or spending time at Cripple Creek, Della made every moment memorable.
She is survived by her children Charlotte (Jim) Cook, Robert (Sylvia – the mother of his children) Ponce, and Denise (Manuel) Montano.
She is also survived by her grandchildren Lynette (Jay), Antoinette, Amber (J.R.), Eric (Rachel), Nicholas (Shannon), Paulette (Carl), Jewell (Chad), Sherrise (Keith), Jordan, and Jeffery.
She leaves behind many great-grandchildren: Brody, Brock, Michael, Makayla, Adriana, Emiliano, Diego, Alex, Nicholas, Alyssa, JP, Wrennyn, Graylyn, and numerous great-great grandchildren.
She is also survived by her sister-in-law Grace Herrera and brother-in-law Pete Ponce.
She was preceded in death by her husband Melciades Ponce, her father Albert Herrera, her brother Charlie Herrera, her son Paul Ponce, and her daughter-in-law Louise Ponce.
A graveside service will be held at 11am on Friday, May 23, at Imperial Memorial Gardens, 5450 Hwy 78 West, Pueblo, Colorado, 81005. Lunch will be held afterward at 13 Verdosa.
“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His faithful servant” – Psalm 116:15
Della’s life was a quiet testimony – faithful, prayerful, generous, and constant. She didn’t need a spotlight to be radiant. She showed love in the way she cooked in the way she prayed, and in the way she always made room at her table. She lived the kind of life that makes heaven feel near.
We believe the Lord welcomed her home with these words:
“Well done, good and faithful servant … enter into the joy of your Master” – Matthew 25:23
