Doris M. Gilmour Orman departed this life to be with our Lord on May 28, 2014. Wife of Colonel Leonard M. Orman, mother of beloved son Jeffrey G. Orman. Born in Falt, Ontario, Canada on May 9, 1917, Doris’ family moved to Hamilton, Ontario shortly thereafter. Doris attended the Music Conservatory in Hamilton, studying voice.
She became a U.S. citizen in 1941 and, as a military wife for 30 years, Doris was a full-time volunteer, helping to establish the Red Cross facility at the West Point Military Hospital. The family traveled the world and had some wonderful experiences. Doris was an artist and decorator. She and her husband, Len, were very active in the Pueblo community.
Doris was vice-president of the Pueblo Symphony Orchestra, member of the board of the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center, and elder and lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church where she served on the decorating committee. She was a past member of the Pueblo Country Club.
In addition to her son Jeff, Doris leaves several Canadian cousins, her former daughter-in-law Trish Orman and Jayne Mitchell (“the girls”), and area friends to mourn her passing. The family wishes to thank Visiting Angels—especially Debbie Green, Linda Townsend, and Linda West--for their loving care and kindnesses in recent months, as well as longtime employees/friends Margie Martinez, Lorenzo Sanchez, and Eleanor Titus for their faithful support.
A memorial service on Saturday, June 7 at 10 a.m. will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Pueblo. The family respectfully requests no food. Memorials in Doris’s name may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences at www.adrian-comer.com.
