
Elmer John Filer, 93, passed away Sept. 5, 2014. Elmer was born in Aguilar, Colo., to Rena Mae and John Filer on Feb. 15, 1921. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Gail Tack; son-in-law, John Sheehan; and wife of many years, Maxine Filer. Survived by children, John (Mary) Filer and Pam (Joe Leal) Sheehan; grandchildren, Troy (Cindi) Tack, Greg (Marla) Tack, Farrah (Brandon) Haines and Josh (Karen) Filer; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Darrian, Haley, Kenneth, Camryn, Kacey, Ben, Bailey, Ava and Madison; special friend and companion, Helen Hearn and lifelong friend and hunting buddy, Gary Fiechtl. Elmer retired from Gas and Arc Supply of Pueblo after 36 years in the welding and industrial gases business, always offering a joke and special deal on every sales call. He was an avid hunter who was affectionately referred to as “Killer“ for his prowess in the outdoors. The family would like to thank Michaela Mendoza for the special care she gave Elmer. The family will receive friends at a reception in Elmer’s honor, 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, at George McCarthy Historic Chapel, 400 Broadway Ave., Pueblo. In lieu of food, and flowers, Elmer requested his memory be honored by spending quality time with your family and friends or simply taking time to enjoy nature, as he often did.
