After the loss of her mother at a tender young age, she was adopted by her maternal aunt and uncle, Harry and Grace Clendenning. She spent most of her young life in Pueblo, Colorado after having lived with her new parents on a farm in Missouri. Her father, Harry, was a brakeman on the C&W railroad at the CF&I in Pueblo. She attended Pueblo Central High School where she met her best friend Sheila Rodarmel and her first husband, Vernon Goebel. She stopped going by her given name Goldie and began going by her middle name Jane. Everyone knew to call her Jane, or ELSE!
Vernon and Jane were married in 1956 and had a son, Vernon Donald Goebel, in July of 1957 while Vern was working in Arizona. Shortly after the arrival of son, Vernon Donald, Vern entered the Navy as a Coreman and was stationed in Japan. Jane and her young son followed him there and were there for approximately 2 years. Upon their return to the United States, they had a daughter, Debra Jane Goebel (Turner) in 1961. Vern worked as a route salesman and Jane stayed at home caring for their two children.
In 1970 while residing in LaJunta Colorado, they adopted a newborn baby girl Desiree Renee Goebel (Krieger).
Vern was unfortunately diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and had to go on disability. Jane worked as a CNA to help ends meet during this transition period. Jane transitioned from being a homemaker to being a caregiver for the developmentally disabled. As a Host Home Provider she cared for two developmentally challenged individuals for close to 20 years. Vern and Jane divorced in 1992.
In 1993 Jane married her second husband and love of her life, Charles L. LaMere and started a new chapter in her life. Charlie was able to open up her world to more than just caregiving and took her many places, Including meeting Ray Price at the Winnevegas Resort in Sloan, Iowa.
Jane is preceded in death by her first husband, Vern Goebel and her grandson, Jason Turner.
She was blessed with many Grandchildren including four from her son Vernon Goebel: Kandi Goebel (Hazzard), Brandi Goebel (Crosson), Brian Goebel and Dawn Goebel. Vernon resides in Grand Rapids Michigan. Her daughter Deb and husband Duane Turner added Carl Turner, Jason Turner and Sara Jane Turner (Breckenridge) all in Pueblo Colorado. Her daughter Desiree and husband Carl Krieger rounded out the family with Gideon Krieger and Lydia Krieger of Dallas Texas and numerous great grandchildren have followed. God also blessed her with many step-children, step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren from her marriage to Charlie. Jane was always a caregiver, first and foremost. She loved to spend time with her best friend (honorary sister), Sheila Rodarmel, the two raising their children together. She enjoyed “glamping” (no tents please!) and fishing. She was known for her delicious jams, jellies and bread and butter pickles. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and wife. She will be missed by all who were blessed to know her and have the pleasure of sharing her huge beautiful heart and her goofy sense of humor. She was known to say that life without humor was no life to live.
