

Gwendolyn Ruth Hicks Higdon, guided through life by her savior, Jesus Christ, joins her husband, Victor Edward Higdon; mother, Mary Pearl Ausbun Hicks; father, Gilbert Westley Hicks; three siblings, Gene, Marilyn and Lyle (Deanne) Hicks; and three beloved grandsons, David, Leroy and Nathan Garner; previous husbands, Charles Kirby and Ormond Schroeder; and stepson, Billie Kirby. Gwendolyn obtained her B.A. degree from BYU in history with accreditation in genealogy. She wrote and published 12 books about her ancestors' history and learned to love them. Gwendolyn's journey of 89 years began May 15, 1928, and concluded Sept. 17, 2017. She leaves behind two siblings, Joan Hicks (Carl) Reagan, Jack (Charlene) Hicks; and three children, Vicky Gwen Higdon (Leroy) Garner, Mark Edward (Patricia) Higdon and Cheryl Lynn Higdon Holloway; three step-children Charlene, Kathy and Clayton Kirby. Gwendolyn also leaves behind 19 grandchildren, 60 great-grand-children and two great-great-grandsons. Gwendolyn belonged to the Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the Nile, and served as Worthy Matron for Easter Stars. Gwendolyn served in many callings in her church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including 10 years as a Temple Worker. Gwendolyn always put her family first. Her family loved this great lady and she will be greatly missed until the time we join her. A viewing will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, at Imperial Funeral Home. Service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Pueblo West.
