

She was born on August 11, 1930 to the union of Robert and Faustina Whatley both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by the Love of her life, Javier Luna after 74 years of marriage, brother’s Robert, Paul, Pete, Barney and sister’s Mildred, Rosie, Gloria, Jenny and her daughter-in-law, Cathy Luna. She married the love of her life, Javier Luna on August 13, 1949 in La Junta, Colorado. She leaves to cherish her memory her brother, Sammy Whatley, 3 children, Alan (Sue), Steve (Bertha) and Suzanne, 6 grandchildren, Anthony, Alan Jr., Steve Jr. (Tiffany), Samuel, AJ and Kayla (Trevor), 6 great grandchildren, Jordan (Martinique Saucedo), Ian (Bea Garcia), Gabby, Isaiah Nicholas, Neriah and Fenix and 5 great-great grandchildren, Jaliyah, Isaiah Mathew, Jacoby, Jazelle and Mila.
Hazel’s early career included jobs at Kipper’s Grocery store, Pueblo Army Depot, Fox Vliet Drug Sales and the Transportation Technology Center Inc. where she retired from in 1993.
Hazel enjoyed camping, bowling, assorted crafts, playing cards and gambling at her favorite locales which included Las Vegas, Laughlin and Cripple Creek and taking cruises. She also cherished the times she and her husband, Javier traveled around the country in their RV with her Brother-in-law, Ralph (Sally) Luna, friends Ted (Tive) Sanchez and Bob (Tiny) Mestas, visiting places like Vancouver, British Columbia, Niagara Falls, New York, Branson, MO and Los Angeles, CA. Hazel was a big fan of the Broncos, Rockies and Nuggets. Her favorite activities involved spending time with family, especially for holidays and birthdays. Hazel was a member of Christ the King Parish in Pueblo since 1961 where she often volunteered in providing bereavement support to families in need.
She will be missed by all who knew her but it is comforting to know that she is enjoying the Lord’s company in his pain free kingdom as well as being reunited with Javier and other family and friends!
Memorial funeral service will be held at Christ the King Church, 1708 Horseshoe Drive, Pueblo, CO on September 13, 2025 at 11:00 AM. Private Family Interment service will be held at Imperial Cemetery at a later date.
The family wants to thank the staff at Sangre De Cristo hospice for caring for Hazel and her care teams at Villa Pueblo, Parkview hospital and Memorial Central hospital. Special thanks to Suzanne and Kayla for helping Hazel navigate her Hospice journey!
