Laura Louise Velasquez, 74, passed away peacefully on October 10th, 2024, in her beautiful Pueblo West
home, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on May 28th, 1950, in Sidney, NE. She was a devoted
mother, grandmother, and friend whose warmth and kindness left a lasting impact on everyone she met.
Laura shared a profound love with her husband, John Velasquez Jr., who preceded her in death. Their bond was a beautiful example of devotion and companionship, and together they built a life filled with shared dreams and mutual respect. John was not only her loving husband but also her best friend, and their life together was marked by grace and humor.
Laura is survived by her beloved daughter, Shelley (Darrin) Cowger, and her son, John (Tammy) Velasquez III, along with her treasured grandchildren, Chas Krummel, Caylee Krummel, John Velasquez IV, and Trista Velasquez. She is also survived by her siblings Joe Valdez, Floyd (Julie) Valdez, Joyce (John Rivera) Valdez, Michael (Betty Gonzalez) Valdez , David (Carol) Valdez, Terry Valdez, Beverly (Mark) Cunningham, Molly (Rick) Sanders, Matt (Denise) Valdez, and Melanie Valdez. As well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. She is preceded in death by her brother, Keith Valdez, her parents, Nazario and Ermelinda "Mille" Valdez; father-in-law John "Chief" Velasquez; and her beloved husband, John Velasquez Jr., whose memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Her life was a beautiful tapestry woven from love, laughter, and cherished memories. She cared deeply for her family, always putting them first and creating a home filled with comfort and joy. Family gatherings were her favorite moments, where she reveled in the laughter of her loved ones and created lasting memories that will be cherished forever. Her nurturing spirit shone through in her delicious meals, which she prepared with love.
Laura devoted her time and career to students within School District 60 as the head secretary at Risley Middle School, retiring from the district in 2005. She found great joy in supporting the students and staff, making a positive impact on countless lives throughout her years of service. Laura had a passion for bingo and loved her regular trips to Black Hawk and Cripple Creek, where she enjoyed the thrill of the games. She also cherished her weekly visits to Village Inn for free pie, sharing sweet moments with family and friends. A woman of deep faith, Laura found joy in attending church and engaging with her community. She believed in the power of kindness and made it her mission to lift the spirits of those around her. Her compassionate heart and infectious smile will be missed by all.
Laura's legacy of love, compassion, and unwavering faith will continue to inspire all who were fortunate
enough to know her. In honoring her memory, let us carry forward her spirit of kindness and the joy she
brought into our lives. Our family would also like to extend our deepest gratitude to Abode Hospice and Home Instead Health Care, especially to Lindsey, Ken, and Samantha, who showed the most support, love, and care while taking care of Laura during her final months.

A public visitation for Laura will be held Thursday, October 24, 2024 at 9:00 AM at St Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 1132 W Oro Grande Dr, Pueblo West, Colorado. A rosary 10:00 AM, funeral mass at 10:30 AM, burial to follow service at Imperial Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 5450 Highway 78 West, Pueblo, Colorado 81005. Luncheon reception to follow burial inside the Imperial Funeral Home Chapel.
