Oneta Johnston, 85, was born July 7, 1932 in Sherman, Texas and went home to be with the Lord on June 7, 2018 in Loveland, Colorado. At age 5, she and her family moved to Pueblo, Colorado. Oneta met the love of her life, Hubert, in Pueblo and the two were married on April 13, 1952, Easter Sunday. Hubert, Oneta, and the girls moved to the San Francisco Bay area in 1964 where the Johnston and Stephens families became lifelong friends. The family happily moved back to Pueblo 2 years later.
Oneta was a prolific artist who worked primarily in oil and acrylic painting, won numerous awards and ribbons with the Pueblo Art Guild, Colorado State Fair, and other juried art exhibits across Colorado. She was also co-owner with Joletta Stephens of the Sleepy Owl and Strawberry Country art boutiques, as well as A Plethora of Cuteness antique and art boutique with her daughter, Peg. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church most of her life and treasured the special music and fellowship she shared with family and friends there. Her faith was the guiding light in her long and loving life.
Oneta is preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Johnston; parents, Art and Lorene Nordyke, brother Arnold Nordyke; parents in law, Deane and Gladys Johnston; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Raymond and Lois Johnston; best friend, Joletta Stephens. She is survived by her daughters (“darling daughters” as she called them) Sherry Baker (John), Peg Mino (Paul), Pam Slade (Gary), Kathy Wooldridge (Alan), 6 grandchildren Joshua Mino (Courtney), Travis Mino (Kelsey), Kyle Slade (Lerah), Ryan Wooldridge, Cody Slade, Laura Wooldridge, 4 great grandchildren, Iyna, Sasha, Evie and Olivia; brother-in-law Keith Johnston (Jean), aunt/sister Nell Farris, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Oneta made the world a more beautiful place with her artistic talent, humble spirit, and easy, gentle smile. She taught us all to see the beauty in the world around us.
Funeral services will be held at the Imperial Memorial Gardens Chapel on Saturday, June 16, 2018. Viewing at 9:00 a.m. followed by service 10:00 a.m. Interment at Imperial Memorial Gardens.
