I am so sorry to hear about your mother and will pray for the difficult grieving process which is, I'm sure, still ongoing with your Dad's recent death as well.

Cling to God and do all you can to trust in His perfect plan through this trial.  I pray that His nearness will be your good.

I remember the first time I met Pat.  Aaron took me to a Sunday night dinner over at their house.  I was so nervous to meet them.  I wanted to make a good first impression.  

The second we walked in the door, Pat sensed I was nervous.  She grabbed me by the arm, took me in the living room, sat me on the couch and put her arm around me and said, “Don’t be nervous honey.”  She then pulled out an old photo album and said, “I am going to show you cute and embarrassing photos of Aaron when he was young, he is the one that should be nervous.”  

Pat always knew how to put a smile on my face.  When I was down, sick, nervous, she always made me cheer up.  Although I was not her real granddaughter, I always considered her my real grandmother.  I will miss her so much.  She will always be in my heart.

From son-in-law, Roger:
Nobody could ever even dream of having a sweeter, kind, and loving mother-in-law than Pat. When Lynn and I were married, she welcomed me to the family with open arms, which I greatly appreciated. She was such a special person to everyone who knew her. She was a wonderful and caring grandmother and the times she spent with Aaron are irreplaceable. She will be greatly missed by everyone who was fortunate enough to know her.

From son-in-law, Marvin:

Pat was a sweet, gracious and generous mother-in-law.  She and Allan were great additions to my family and went so far as to “adopt” two of my grandchildren, Dylan and Jessica as they didn't have grandparents on their father's side.  Pat made them feel very special.

Of course, for many years, my grandchildren came to visit the cabin and one of the things they looked most forward to was playing games with Grandma Pat.

It was while visiting the cabin with Pat that I discovered another side of her that was not readily apparent on the surface.  We had eaten dinner at the Lodge in San Isabel.  She was driving and announced that as teenagers they would drive the all downhill road to Rye without hitting the brake.  She did it again that night with me in the front passenger seat and Cheryl wisely in the back.  Let's just say she scared the be-jebbers out of me!

We were all lucky to have her in our lives and will always cherish her in our hearts.

From her daughter by choice, Katy Arado:
She would hug you tightly and whisper, "I love you just because you're you". 
She would gladden the heart of a child by always finding the time to play with them, create with them, or explore with them. Her time was for others, not herself. 
She would listen. 
She would even speak kindly to a stranger. 
She would laugh with a friend, or take a walk with them, or perhaps treat them to ice-cream. She would pray for someone that hurt, and encourage an older person. 
She would play games and do puzzles, and stuff you with food. 
She loved laughter and God's word. 
She would always tell you she appreciated your time or your talents. 
She is in our hearts and memories for all to share and treasure. 
She gave of herself always. 
And when you give the gift of yourself, you give everything.

There are no words adequate enough to express our sorrow in losing a best friend. 
The good times, the fun & laughter we shared with Pat & Allan for so many years; the hard & difficult periods we looked to them for support & understanding-treasured memories.
Pat was always there for me with her kindness, a shoulder to cry on when needed, & unconditional love.
Our lives are richer for having had her true friendship, which will never be forgotten & always cherished.

To Mom from daughters, Cheryl (and Lynn)

The coroner asked me what your occupation was, and it was difficult to come up with an answer.  I settled on “housewife”, but I honestly believe your occupation was loving us?all of us.  

In the days following your death the term used most to describe you was “friend”.  You were a good friend, always available to listen and always ready with the words you thought we needed to hear.  You were our mother, but as time went on you became our friend, a best friend.
You always apologized (for everything), but to us for your lack of talents.  And your talents, like your occupation are not easily identifiable.  However, you were very talented as a friend and with the following:
Music~We can’t remember a time when there wasn’t music of some kind playing at our house.  The Victrola was front and center in the living room.  Followed by your pride and joy?the long storage stereo.  Eventually replaced by a more compact “boom” box.

And we sang?a lot.  As children we sang the melody and you were right there with the harmony.  It wasn’t until I began spending time with other families that I realized holidays weren’t all laced with beautiful harmonic prayers.

Games~you could really play them, and way beyond simply cards.  You had board games, word games, puzzles and computer games.  What we remember most, however, is all the fun we had when you dug deep inside yourself and made something up.

The huge tent you built for us in the basement was a masterpiece and you never failed to come up with a new way for us to use it.  You sat through our endless productions, “ate” at our restaurants and played the board games you encouraged us to make.

You became Aaron’s best playmate, spending hours feeding his imagination.  And then one-half a generation later you started again with Marvin’s grandchildren.  Each one of them couldn’t wait to come to Colorado to play games with Grandma Pat.

Crafts~were a huge part of growing up with you.  So much so, that we had a box of supplies you filled with egg cartons, strawberry baskets, tissue towel rolls and paper of all descriptions.  We had Pak-of-Fun magazines, books on the subject and again countless ideas that you pulled out of your head.

You encouraged us to be great gift givers.  We spread May baskets around the neighborhood, made take-home favors for family parties and Christmas gifts for all the relatives, (didn’t they love that!)

Cooking~We're sure you are laughing now.  But yes, cooking.  We certainly never starved and dinner was always on time.  We do however, have nightmares about those horrible Friday night tuna patties, but it wasn’t all bad.

You were the only mother in the neighborhood who let us make donuts from the home economics recipe.  Who else would rise at 4:30 a.m. and heat chili for her daughter’s ski thermos?  Who else would have bought the cool Kool-Aid pitcher with the smiley face?  And who else would have ever encouraged her daughters to put food coloring in every dinner item based on a theme?we mean really, red heart-shaped hamburgers?

Then of course, there were the holidays.  We’d have to hide the garbage in the garage, but those were some meals!  And the cookies?did it ever occur to you to cut any of those recipes in half?  Gumdrops, candy canes, sugar with frosting and of course the “Pepperkakers”.

Nature~invaded our snug home through you.  We helped with the garden you planted and dutifully ate our homegrown bounty.  We collected butterflies that you helped us mount, bugs in jars, and when it came time to create a leaf collection it was you who came to the rescue.

You loved the cabin best and in spite of the bugs and scratchy blankets you made it fun.  You climbed trees, waded in the creek and were always up for a walk around the circle.  It was there you fell in love with hummingbirds and taught us how to talk to them.

However, when we think of you and nature the word that comes most to mind is “ants”.  You probably influenced the ant population more than any other human on the face of the earth?directly and through proper training.  There is not one small person that has passed under you influence (if for only a few minutes) that has not been carefully instructed as to the procedure of stomping ants.

Driving~It was you who taught us to drive.  All around the parking lot at the church, up and down the streets of Littleton and then the terrorizing moments holding the clutch on the hill at the top of Caley Avenue.

Before that, you were what they now call a “carpool mom”.  Unfortunately for you, there weren’t many other moms to share the burden.  Whether it was Girl Scouts, music lessons, ballet or pep club we could always count on you to be waiting at the curb.

When I moved away, you would still be waiting at the curb?this time at Denver International Airport.  You’d be there at 10 p.m. to pick me up and be up at o-dark hundred to take me back.  The hardest thing we ever had to do was tell you, you couldn't drive anymore.

Laughter~ yours is something we will carry with us always.  Only you could laugh harder telling the story than when you got to the punch line.  You laughed quickly, easily and at yourself.

Travel~you were always ready to go?anywhere, anytime. Whether it’s a road you’ve never been down, a restaurant ready to be discovered, or a country yet to visit, you were first in line.

You are the best travel partner I ever had.  We just about did it all: the rolling green of Ireland, formal England, lush tropical Hawaii, Greece, Italy, Germany, and so many U.S. cities from New York to Coffeeville.

It wasn’t easy for you?the rain fell in sheets, the snow blinded the road, or the traffic was always the worst whenever it was your turn to drive.  There were hours of waiting at airports and stressful moments wondering if we would get on a certain flight.  Late nights, early mornings, strange beds and stranger surroundings-but you took it all in stride.

You best trip by far was when you visited Israel and saw the sites of the stories from your faith.  That faith that carried you for your lifetime.  After the doctors told us you had lung cancer, I asked you if you were scared.  You creased your brow and said emphatically, “no, I know where I'm going.”  So today, as we celebrate your life, your talents and your friendship, we too know exactly where you are.

From sister, Betty Jo:  
First and foremost, my sister Patty was a "people person."

All through her life, family, friends, and neighbors saw her outreach to others. During our mother's last years, Patty made many trips from Littleton to Pueblo to be with her.

When, over the years both Cheryl and Lynn experienced some very tough situations, Patty, and Allan, always stepped up to help them resolve the problems.

Traveling with Cheryl both here and abroad added knowledge about our family history that we all appreciated.

As a devoted grandmother, the shared times with grandson Aaron always delighted her. Family get -togethers for birthdays, holidays and special occasions were wonderful memory making times that all of us enjoyed over the years.

Patty's willingness to be a good neighbor made for many close ties with folks both in Pueblo and Littleton.

Dear to her heart was the cabin in Rye, Johnson Pines, where they spent summers for over 50 years. The change of scenery at creekside in the fresh mountain air exhilarated her -- and made possible more new friends and neighbors. Her hospitality was cheerfully shared many times over the years, as many of the people here today remember. I will be eternally grateful that I was able to spend five days with her over the last Fourth of July weekend.

Patty's Christian faith and devotion was always strong. She supported both the Congregatiional Church in Pueblo, as well as the church in Rye. We can truly rejoice in knowing that she is now at peace with her Lord Jesus. As a loving sister to me, and a caring friend and neighbor to so many people during her life, she will be greatly missed by us all.

Of the many wonderful qualities of Grandma Pat, my personal favorite was her adventurous spirit.  When I was young, I was fascinated by the unknown and wanted to know where every road went.  I knew how to read maps, but for some reason I just wanted to see for myself where each road would lead.  While most people would have convinced me there was nothing out there to see, Grandma would spend whole days driving me around the countryside traveling each road, and every trip was a little adventure.  Whether she was attempting to motivate a herd of cattle to get out of the way or driving into a pasture trying to avoid mud puddles that were deeper than the car, Grandma wouldn't let anything get in the way of making it all the way down the road.   And even with the goal of getting there, she always took the time to enjoy everything along the way, like a lone windmill in a field or an old abandoned schoolhouse.  Grandma Pat's life was a long and beautiful road, and she took the time to enjoy everything along the way including a wonderful husband, family, and friends while always finding a way around life's occasional mud puddle.  I will always miss her, but I take a great deal of comfort knowing that she finally found what's at the end of the road.

I'm so sorry for Grandma Pat.  She is in a better place now playing cards with Grandpa Allan and throwing bones for Mandy, Junior and Jenna!  We will miss her greatly and always remember her.

We shall both miss Pat.  She had a generous and loving soul and had a knack for making others feel good about themselves

Dear Cheryl and Marvin,
I was sorry to hear of the passing of Pat although it sounds merciful when compared to the potential of extended suffering with the cancer.  I want you to know that my thoughts and prayers  are with you in this time of loss.  Cheryl, please know that I remember both of your parents well and think fondly of them. I was so very sad to hear of your mother's passing. I know how much you loved her and will miss her. You were such a good daughter and I know she was so very proud of you. I wish I were there to give you a BIG hug. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time of sorrow.

I'm so sorry to hear about your mom, Lynn. I do know what a difficult time this is. Hugs and prayers for you and your family. 

I saw the picture of your mother with her teddy bear. It reminded me so much of my mother. When my dad died, my daughter Shauna got her a teddy bear so she would have something to hug when she slept. Later, the teddy bear began to take on human characteristics for Mom; she would have conversations with him and his eyes lit up when she entered the room, according to Mom. When she died, we buried "Buddy" Bear with her.

I'm also glad your mother didn't have to suffer long with her Alzheimer's. Both my parents had that dreadful disease, and neither one knew me by the end. Once again, I want you to know my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Lynn, I'm sorry to hear of your mom's passing. You will find much comfort in knowing she is with the Lord. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

Lynn, My sympathies and may you remember the happy times to help you through the loss. Your mother, Pat, was a good friend to my mom at South Suburban Christian Church.

Aunt Pat,  We are sure going to miss you.  From the weeks during the summer you welcomed me in at Littleton to all the great times we had in Rye at the cabin.   Patty and Allan have always been a part of my life - my second set of parents on W. Caley Avenue! I have a multitude of memories that flash through my mind...frosted animal cookies in the kitchen cupboard, an endless supply of soft drinks, cars and magazines and all manner of treasures in the basement, 4th of July picnics with fizzling fireworks, Christmas cards posted on the front door, New Year's Eve parties with sparkling cider and games of Tripoly, jigsaw puzzles in process on a card table, the smell of home perms exchanged between moms...and the list goes on and on. But most of all, I remember the absolute feeling of love and acceptance from both of your folks whenever I saw them -- so much laughter and teasing and good times spent with my other family through all of my growing up years and beyond. You are all in my heart, and I wish I could be there with you now...

Gramma Pat entered our lives when the kids were so little they didn't know that she had "adopted" them as her own grandkids...they just assumed it was always that way. Every time we saw Pat in CO she was sooooo much fun.  Lovingly referred to as the "force feeder" there were MORE than enough hot dogs for the boy when he visited. Oh and the patience....remember the WEEK long Monopoly game?  We had lots of laughs.....she will be missed!  We were blessed to have her in our family and remain blessed with "our Cheryl"  Love and kisses to all in CO!

I understand your loss and heartache this day.  Your Mom was such a giving person who loved her family more than life itself.
