

Richard “Whitey” Duane Burnett, Sr., 78, born December 18, 1934 passed away January 22, 2013 surrounded by his loved ones after a long illness. He was preceded in death by his wife of almost 54 years, Barbara Zuk Burnett; son Michael; father, Jay Burnett; step-father, Ellis W. Herrell; and his mother, Shirley Wood Herrell. Richard is survived by his daughters, Denise (Fred) Ferguson, Bend, OR and Susan Johnson, Pueblo West, CO; sons, Richard D. Burnett Jr., Pueblo, CO, and Gregory (Laurie) Burnett, Pueblo West, CO; also survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Richard spent 42 years with the Santa Fe Railroad serving many roles with the railroad union eventually holding the position of General Chairman of TCU. He enjoyed his retirement by spending more time with his family and railroad buddies. A memorial service is being planned by the family for a later date. A memorial service celebrating Richards life will be held Saturday, February 16, 2013 from 2 to 4 pm at the Pueblo Union Depot train station in the historic district. Coffee, punch and cookies will be available. Everyone is welcome to join and tell stories of Whitey to remember and celebrate his life.
